The State High Court sitting in Obiaruku has given a judgment that the alleged coronation or installation of Chief Friday Abaja as the King of Umukwata by officials of Delta state government is null and void. According to our source, the trial Judge faulted the stated Government for issuance of staff of office to Chief Abaja, without due process.
According to the Judge, the executive is not the right machinery to change the tradition of a place, but the State House of Assembly, if the community so desires.
The court directed that the Okpala -Uku still remains the traditional ruler of Umukwata Community and Chief Abaja should henceforth stop parading himself anywhere as the king of Umukwata or risk being prosecuted for it.
Ndokwareporters.com is waiting for the full detail from the presiding Judge. And for now will cannot tell if the defendants will want to pursue it to appeal or Supreme Court. But will keep you updated.
