APC Chieftain Laud President Jonathan’s Fight Against Insecurity

A Chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State Dr. Kingsley Otunuya Nwachukwu has said that despite his membership of the opposition political party (APC) in Delta State and the country at large, he has scored President Goodluck Jonathan high for his fight against the current insecurity including the Boko Haram insurgency, rocking the country. Dr. Nwachukwu a former member of Delta State House of Assembly, as well as former Transition Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Council, made the statement during an interview with news reporters in Ashaka.
He explained that despite the fact that the president is the Commander-in-chief of Nigeria Armed Forces, he was not in the position to carry gun or go to the war front, but to give order to the armed forces which according to him (Nwachukwu) President Jonathan has constantly done since the outbreak of the insurgency. His words “True, we have of late, been buffeted by serious insecurity problems in the form of Boko Haram. I believe that President Goodluck Jonathan is doing his best under the circumstances. It must be appreciated that we are faced with a group that has connection with Al Queda that has defiled Western military might in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and other places. No party can provide a quick win or short term solution to the present insurgency in parts of the North, these are times when our politicians should desist from playing politics with the nation’s security problems by casting blames”.
Answering other questions on the nation’s democracy, the APC Chieftain shared the view that Nigeria has not done badly democratically, especially in relationship with the fifteen years uninterrupted democratic governance. He described the few challenges as signs of maturity, though, condemned the corruption which he said, that has devastated the various sectors of the country’s life. Dr. Nwachukwu counseled Nigeria politicians against electoral frauds like imposition of candidates, falsification of election results, carting away of election materials and sponsorship of political thuggry and violence in order to produce credible and the people oriented elected and appointed leaders and representatives.
He aligned himself with the National Conferb vote against States Electoral Commissions, saying that they are instruments for ruling political parties to maneuver elections to their candidates favour. His words; “Commissioners and staff of the State Electoral Commission will ensure that all candidates of the ruling party are declared winners”, believing in true federalism, the lawyer called for sanity in the electoral system, the States Electoral Commission should be scrapped, whereupon, all elections from councillorship to the presidency be handled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that this enhances the tailoring of the true federalism to suit the nations’ special circumstances as a way to eradicate corruption in the electoral system at all levels. “Until the imposition of candidates end, we cannot be seen to be operating a democratic society” he told the journalists.
