Hon. Alphonsus Ojo
The member representing Ukwuani constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, and the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April 11, 2015 State Assemblies election, Hon. Alphonsus Ojo had reacted to the allegation of his involvement in the beating of Comr. David Ochonogor of the All the Progressive Congress (APC) on the election day at Umutu.
According to Hon Ojo who called Ndokwa Reporters to narrate his own side of the story, said that the allegation of mobilizing the Nigerian Army to attack and beat up Mr. Ochonogor was false as he only learnt of the incident through a third party.
Hon Ojo said in his word “I was not there, never went to the unit when the incident happened, yes I was a candidate, but did not got myself involved”. He said.
The PDP candidate said that what he learnt after the incident was that Mr. David Ochonogor organized youths in Umutu on that election day to terrorize the units under ward 1 including unit 004 Umutu, with the intention of snatching the ballot boxes and carry away other sensitive materials for the election and, after warnings from the police, and the men of the Nigerian Army and he failed to hid to their advices that they the army tried to take him out of the unit and he resisted, that was what led to the incident.
Hon Ojo, concluding said that, “the security men acted to bring in peace so that the people can be allowed to exercise their electoral right, and that he was never involved in the attack on the victim”. He concluded.
