Catholics in the country has been called upon to pray for Nigeria, and Delta state in particular for peace and development.
This call was made by the Delta state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Monday, 12 October, 2015 when the National Executives of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, (CCRN), paid him a courtesy call at the state house, Asaba.
The governor who was represented by the Executive Assistant on Religious Matters, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu, told the delegates that for there to be good governance, God must be involved in that government, and that is what the present Delta state government is all about, to always trust in God for wisdom and guidance on the day to day running of the affairs of the state.
Speaking further, the governor called on the leaders of CCRN to always at any giving time, partner with the government, by constantly seeking peace among Nigerians, as Jesus has said “My Peace I give unto you, Not the way the world giveth”, because with the present security situation in the country, Nigeria need peace, and it is through the intercession of the church in prayers, the country will experience that peace.
The government also used the occasion of the visit to remind Deltans that the promise made to them, to actively engage and empower Deltans through the SMART agenda is already on course as the first batch of the 6000 beneficiaries of the Youth Empowerment Programmes is presently receiving intensive training at the various designated centres across the state, who will after completing their training will add to the economic value chain of the state as they will not only actively participate in production services, but will also train more Deltans to be entrepreneurs and service providers.
He therefore ask that for the programmes to be effectively implemented, the present government need prayers, and there is no better place to seek for that prayer than from the house of God.
Earlier, the leader of the delegate, Dr. Collins Ugwu, who is the national chairman of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, said they had come to officially invite the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to the 12 National Conference of the group holding in Delta state at the National Service Centre, Ubulu Uku in November, 2015, with the theme: “The Master is Here”.
Speaking, the National Chaplain of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria, Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Patrick, told the governor that the body is already partnering with the government of the state, not only in the area of spiritual development, but also in physical and provision of employment as the national centre of the body has helped to provide about 7kms of earth road to the people of Ubulu-Uku, and the establishment of a water processing plant, which presently is contributing to the employment services of the state government.
Present at the occasion were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters, Rev. Ben Golly, Staff of the Religious Matters Department, and National Executive of the Catholic Charismatic of Nigeria, (CCRN).
