CDHR Call DSS/EFCC Faceoff, Shameful, Uninspiring

LAGOS/Nigeria: The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has described yesterday’s ugly scene between operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC at the Asokoro, Abuja residence of former DSS Director-General, Ekpeyong Ita,  as shameful, sickening and uninspiring.

The organisation also chided the security operatives who also cordoned off and prevented the arrest of Ambassador Ayo Oke, former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.

Reacting to news of the disgraceful faceoff, President of CDHR, Mr. Malachy Ugwummadu condemned the dishonourable and unethical actions, warning that such reprehensible conducts have consequences.

The CDHR president who expressed worry over the overzealousness of men of DSS and their less than average conduct as public officers called for appropriate sanctions to avoid future occurrence.

“The repeated and clandestine approach where officers or men of the DSS mask themselves in official discharge of their duties is becoming very worrisome. Needless to say such operation targeted at a sister organisation can only lead to chaos, anarchy and disharmony in the entire law enforcement apparatus of the country.

“We therefore call on the DG to tame their excesses and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their functions without hindrance to avoid any further form of embarrassment that would send the wrong signal”, he said.
