OROROKPE/Nigeria:  Christian Leaders under the umbrella of the Christian Community in Politics (CCP), Delta state chapter, recently organised a prayer session for peace, unity and development of Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, and also used the occasion to task Christians to be involved in politics, as their involvement will bring good governance to the area.

Speaking at the occasion, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters, Bishop Greatman Nmalagu, charged the council workers to be submissive and loyal to the leadership of the council, noting that sustainable development can only come in atmosphere of where peace and unity reign, as he and other ministers of God prayed for peace, unity and unfettered development of the area, and Devine wisdom and God protection on the chairman of the council area, Hon.Julius Jesse Scott, who was represented by his wife, Mrs. Eunice Scott.

Reacting to the prayer session of peace, unity and development for the council area, the chairman thanked the members of the Christian community for the initiative, as it is aimed at restoring unfettered peace and unity to the area, and Delta at large.

“I am happy that prominent ministers of God in Delta state are making huge sacrifice for the progress of our society and humanity, especially this time of perennial and hurting economic and political challenges.” He said.
In his earlier remark, the President of CCP Delta state, Rev. Dr. Cyril Okonye emphasized the importance of the prayer, which he described as a medium to attract God’s divine blessings and protection to Okpe council and also to seek God’s wisdom in the administration of the council and Delta state.
Continuing, the clergy  said that the Christian community is committed to the political direction of Delta state come 2019, even as he noted that in the past years, Christians distanced themselves from political activities which they perceived as a “dirty game.’

He said the church had woken up to change the ugly narrative, stressing that Christians would  partake in political activities and take advantage of their large population to vote enmass at the 2019 election in order to elect the right calibre of politicians into power.

Rev. Okonye strongly called on Christians to get their voter cards so that they would partake fully in the upcoming 2019 election and sustain good governance in Delta state.

The cleric praised Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his giant strides in infrastructural and human capacity development in the state in recent times.
