Energy Commissioner Underscores Import of Power In Stronger Delta Agenda

ASABA/Nigeria: The place of regular power supply in the realization of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration’s Stronger Delta agenda has again been stressed.

The Commissioner for Energy, Rt Hon. Basil Ganagana, stated this when members of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Energy made a familiarization visit to his office.

The commissioner while welcoming the team explained that government had put in so many resources in electricity intervention but had not gotten the desired result.

He expressed displeasure with the performance of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in the state, stressing that the DISCO had been frustrating government efforts in energy intervention.

Hon. Ganagana explained that the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration was committed to building a Stronger Delta through industrialization, which he noted, would create jobs and that could not be possible without electricity.

The commissioner appealed to the house committee chairman and members to pay attention to correspondence coming from the ministry, saying it intends to generate bills which should be passed into energy laws in the state.

The chairman,  Delta State House of Assembly committee on Energy, Hon. Kenneth Ogba and his team, said the committee was ready collaborate with the ministry to ensure steady power supply in the state.

The committee members expressed gratitude to the energy commissioner for his warm reception and assured him of their readiness to achieve a Stronger Delta.

They said that it was saddening that a state like Delta was in darkness even with all its natural resources.
