Ochor Ochor Foundation Empowers 22 Entrepreneurs with Equipment and Cash

UMUTU/Nigeria: in line with Governor Okowa’s Youth Empowerment Programme, Members of Delta Queens Political Forum, one of the primary support groups to the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor were empowered on Saturday with sets of sewing Machines, generating sets, dryer and other hair dressing items, including cash by the Ochor Ochor Foundation.

The Deputy Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, who is the Chairman of the Foundation, speaking during the empowerment at Umutu town, Ukwuani Local Government Area, noted that the programme is in appreciation of the support and commitment the group showed towards his political ambition to the Delta State House of Assembly, as well as that of other Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates in the past election.

Flanked by his Wife Mrs Ann Ochor Ochor, the member representing Ndokwa West, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Charles Emetulu, PDP Ukwani Local Government Chairman, Mr. Patrick Kaine, Commissioner Representing Ndokwa Nation on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Dr. Samuel Ossai among other prominent PPD members in Ukwani, the Deputy thanked all PDP members in the area saying their collective support saw him through to the house of Assembly  with the added position of Deputy speaker.

He thanked members of the Delta Queens Political Forum, noting that their empowerment which cuts across all the wards in Ukwuani Local Government Area is a first phase as the programme will be extended to other support groups too.

The Deputy Speaker further sued for continued support from all Ukwuani son’s and daughter for the Okowa administration which he said among other developmental projects, is committed to youth empowerment.

Speaking in his capacity as the occasion’s chairman, Hon. Emetulu while appreciating the gesture of giving out the items to the beneficiaries in the spirit of the Christmas season, commended Ochor Ochor for remembering to come home to appreciate the Delta Queens for their support.

Calling on the beneficiaries not to sell the items they are being given, Emetulu Said: “I want to beg Delta Queens not to sell them, but put them to use and be useful to themselves and society.” He also commended Dr. Ossai Samuel, co-sponsor of the event, and praised the spirit of unity and co-operation at work between Ochor Ochor and Dr. Ossai Samuel.

Also fielding questions from journalists on why he is co-sponsoring the empowerment programme, Dr. Ossai Samuel spoke glowingly of Ochor, saying: “Ochor has been my leader, and I have learnt a lot from him. I just thought that I should be involved in whatsoever that he is doing. He is a true grassroots leader.”

The President Delta Queens Political Forum, Rita Nwanchukwu, in her address,said the empowerment will further spure their support for the PDP.

She said they will make good use of the starter parks so as to become self employed as well be employers of labour in their various fields.

A recipient, Miss Ossai  Ashiedu, who received a sewing machine among other items, commended Hon. Ochor for the gesture. With her excited mother by her side, she said:  “It is a good thing. Thanks to Hon. Ochor Ochor. God bless him. I trained as a seamstress at Obiaruku, but I never had money to buy my work tools to start off. Now I have.”

Other speakers at the occasion extolled the Deputy Speaker as a humble and committed grass root politician, saying with the recent confirmation of the victory of senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa by the Supreme Court, the second term is now fully on course and at such, the Ndokwa nation should not relent in her supports for the good initiatives of the Okowa administration towards building a stronger Delta for all.

The highpoint of the event was the distribution of the empowerment items which included sewing machines, generating sets, dryer and other saloon equipment plus decoration items and cash to twenty Two beneficiaries.
