Delta Govt Trains 200 Youths in Special Intervention Empowerment Programme

ASBA/Nigeria: The Ministry of Youth Development said it has trained over 200 youths in various skills under the Special Youth Intervention Training and Empowerment Programme (SYITEP) as part of measures to complement the effort of the Delta State Job Creation office.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Oghenekaro Ilolo disclosed this when he took turn to brief the press on the activities and achievements of his Directorate during the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing in Asaba.

Hon. Ilolo stated that the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa inaugurated a State Steering Committee on Special Youth Intervention Training and Empowerment Programme (SYITEP), to complement the efforts of the office of Job Creation, in the training of unemployed youths in the State.

He said that the beneficiaries’ youths are being trained currently on various skill areas in the State Skill Acquisition Centres and under registered Master Trainers across the State.

According to Hon. Ilolo, SYITEP was in line with the mission of the Directorate of Youth Development which was to provide sustainable framework for the integrated planning and development of youth policies and programmes through skill acquisition training and empowerment, thereby enhancing their employability or to be economically independent via the establishment of their own businesses.

In the same vein, the Commissioner revealed that in line with the mandate of the Directorate, 293 Youth Clubs, comprising of youth organizations and youth related NGO’s had been registered in the State for proper monitoring, saying that the sum of N3,702,000.00 was realised from the exercise.

“The Directorate through the Youth Development officers at the Zonal offices has been monitoring the activities of these youth organizations with the view of encouraging them to key into Governor Okowa’s SMART agenda of Wealth Creation through agriculture, skill acquisition and micro credit loan for small and medium scale businesses.” Hon Ilolo stated.

He further said that the Directorate under its supervision was able to conduct a successful State Congress and elections for the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Delta State chapter in January 2017.

“Also the State Management Meeting of the Council in September, 2017 was also sponsored by the present Administration”

“The Directorate was able to nip in the bud the election crisis among the youths in Amai, Oko, Okpanam, Umuebu kingdom through the quick intervention of the Directorate and the Delta State Youth Council…” He stated.

The Commissioner revealed that other youth activities carried out by the Directorate include town hall meetings for youth in the three senatorial districts, training/capacity building workshop for some selected youths, and sponsor of youths from the 25 Local Government Areas to the 2017 International Youth week celebration.

Others are sponsored two members of the Delta State Youth Council to attend the year 2017 Melaka International World Assembly of Youth Dialogue at Melaka Malaysia; sensitization and awareness campaign against cultism for youths at the three Senatorial District and the disbursement of the year 2017 annual subvention of the sum of N100, 000 to 46 recognized Voluntary Organizations in the State to encourage them in carrying out their humanitarian services.
