AUCHI/Nigeria: In an apparent move to actualize the second term agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a group of political leaders under the aegis of Edo State Political Leaders Forum (EDPLF) on Thursday met in Auchi, Edo North Senatorial District, describing Oyegun as a man of integrity and principle.
“Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has been a refreshing contrast to some of his counterparts. He is one of those honest politicians in Africa” the leaders said.
At a meeting to shore up support and encouragement for Oyegun, the leaders resolved to work against other likely national chairmanship contenders in the state.
“Oyegun is by far the most prominent option for those who want an inclusive, stable and strong party”
In a statement issued by the group’s spokesperson, Dr. Kingsley Oshione, the leaders urged APC members in other geo-political zones to think about the future of the ruling party and resist any arrangement that will deter Oyegun’s second term.
They described the national chairman as a good leader, competent administrator and one of the most influential and uniting figures in Nigerian history.
“Oyegun’s approach to politics is unique. He deserves second term” the leaders said.
Reacting to the abuse and ridicule in the tenure elongation issue, the leaders hailed Oyegun’s harshest critics for acknowledging his impeccable honesty, competence and humble life style.
“Oyegun is not just like other politicians. He is down to earth, clear sighted about issues facing the ruling party and instrumental in making APC the strongest in Nigeria.
They praised Oyegun for having the type of empathy and direction the country needs, bringing people around to his way by dint of example and argument and liberating Nigerians from dirty politics.
“Oyegun is not a political novice. He took over the chairmanship with every understanding of what leadership or management is all about. The ruling party is now more united and expanded under Oyegun’s leadership”
Set to mount a serious challenge to other national chairmanship aspirants in the zone, particularly Edo State, the leaders praised Oyegun for having the courage to speak out, putting up a brave front and discharging his duties as national chairman of the ruling party.
“Oyegun is well known for his innovative ideas, clean image and corruption free administration. He has a positive record as governor and cares about ethics”
Odigie-Oyegun, a cerebral, competent manager and good example of leadership in Africa, is expected to win the chairmanship election in the party’s convention.
“Since 2014, Oyegun finds allies in every corner of the APC apparatus in Nigeria. His overriding goal is to prepare the ruling party for victory in the country’s 2019 general election” the leaders said.
The South-South geo-political zone recently endorsed the APC national chairman for second term.
“We are bound for success” the leaders said.
Political leaders from Etsako West, East and Central, Owan East and West and Akoko-Edo were present at the meeting.
