Female Medical, Dental Doctors Gets Commendation for Improving Lives

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye has commended the Association of Female Medical and Dental Doctors in Delta State for the numerous activities they had embarked on geared towards improving lives.

Dr Ononye gave the commendation when the Local Organizing Committee members for the 2019 Biennial General Meeting/Scientific Conference of  the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, paid him an advocacy visit in his office.

While welcoming the association members to his office, he congratulated Dr Minnie Oseji, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health on her recent election as the National President-Elect of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, describing it a well deserved due to her track record as an achiever.

He assured the Association of the State government’s support in the sponsorship of the forth coming Conference and that as a person he would also assist them in making sure the hosting was successful as he had confidence in the Local Organizing Committee members.

Earlier, Dr Oseji, who led the delegation said that the association was a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit making organization of qualified female Medical and Dental Doctors in Nigeria and that they have contributed to the health sector in several ways.

She said that the essence of the visit was to inform the commissioner that the Biennial General Assembly/Scientific Conference would hold in September, 2019 in Asaba, Delta State, even as solicited for financial assistance in terms of sponsorship of the forthcoming event.

According to her, “Every two years the National body of the Association organizes a Biennial Conference where pertinent issues concerning women’s health care and capacity building of members are addressed in addition to carrying out several health outreaches to surrounding rural communities.”

Dr Oseji informed the Commissioner that the Association intend to attract a lot of support for health programmes to the State when the State chapter hosts the National Secretariat from 2019 to 2021.

She added that at the Conference, the handover ceremony would include her installation as the 22nd National President as she had been duly elected.

She explained that the theme for the 2019 biennium conference is “Male Involvement In Maternal and Child Health”, with sub-themes namely; Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination; Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices especially Female Genital Mutilation; Economic Empowerment of Women for/and Health (medical women in business).

Dr Oseji appealed to the commissioner to get involved in the Association’s activities and support their vision by accepting to be one of the Association’s male champions.
