More Empowerment for Delta Women in 2018 Says Gov. Okowa

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has assured Deltan women of more empowerment programmes in 2018,  so as to create employment, wealth and  a peaceful state.
Speaking during the grand finale of a 4-Day training programme for Women Empowerment Skill Acquisition  Programme (WESAP)  in Asaba, Gov. Okowa said government would embark on empowerment programmes for different groups of Deltans next year in order to create more jobs and wealth for the people
According to him ” l am happy for the joy of this programme, the way it was well organised by the Executive Assistant Mrs. Flora Alatan to train about 252 women, who we will be giving starter packs today to start up their businesses.”
“This programme will be done quarterly next year with 252 women in each quarter, that is about 1000 women to be trained, we need to gradually affect the lives of our people.” he said, adding that “Women are blessed by God with the wisdom to manage little finance well to become huge sum.”
Gov. Okowa also explained that his administration would begin empowerment programme for widows by January next year of which 200 each would be selected from the 25 local government areas of the state, to be given stipends and be registered  free for the state health insurance scheme.
He charged the coordinator of (WESAP) to liaise with the Commissioner for Commerce and industry, Mrs. May Iyasere and ensure that the the graduating trainees are formed into cooperative groups to enable them be effectively monitored and access loans when necessary.
In a welcome address, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilization For Development, Mrs. Flora Alatan, commended Gov. Okowa for encouraging women in his administration through appointments and empowerment and promised him of women’s continuous support for his administration.
Commissioners for Women Affairs and Commerce and Industry respectfully, Rev.Omatsola Williams and May Iyasere in their separate goodwill messages, thanked God for the wisdom given to the governor to empower women and appealed to the graduands to make good use of the starter pact and improve their well-being with that of their families.
