National Youth Games: Delta’s Victory In Line With New State’s Brand Identity-Ukah

sports-comAsaba: The victory of Delta State contingent to the recently concluded 2nd edition of the National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State, is in line with the state’s new brand identity which has sports as one of its major components.

This was the position of the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, accompanied by his Basic and Secondary Education counterpart, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, when they visited the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, in his office in Asaba, on Tuesday (Oct 11, 2016).

Mr. Ukah posited that the state is well known to be in a pole position in all spheres of national and international sports and this victory is a clear manifestation of that fact.

He congratulated Chief Okowa and his management team for keeping the state’s flag flying high through the well deserved victory.

The Information Commissioner revealed that arrangements have been concluded for 2000 hockey sticks to be presented to some selected secondary schools in the state to further boost the exploits of the state in sports.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, said that the timing of the distribution of the hockey sticks to selected secondary schools in the state is very apt and in line with the determination of his ministry to give school sports more attention.

He commended his information counterpart for the initiative adding that since the game of hockey is no longer what it used to be in the state, everything possible will be done to revive it and ensure that it takes its place of pride in sports.

The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, thanked the two commissioners for the visit, stressing that sports in the state is tilting towards the right direction.

He stated that this is the right time to revive school sports as it is the surest way of boosting grassroots sports development.
