AGBOR/Nigeria: As part of her Social Responsibility and project for the Lions year 2018/2019 the Lion Club International had attended activity to mark the World Sight Day, organised by The Nigerian Optometrist Association ,Delta State Chapter, which annually holds on 11 October.
According to the organisers, The Nigerian Optometrist Association ,Delta State Chapter decided to bring this ceremony to the home of our amiable Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa in honor of Her Excellency Dame Edith Okowa the First Lady of Delta State and founder of 05 Initiative to appreciate her for her passion for Eye Health.
The First Lady of Delta State Dame Edith Okowa who has been visiting the various local governments in the state with her team of doctors offering free Ophthalmic/optical services who personally attended the event, said she is pleased been in the occasion and appreciates the kind gesture provided by the NOA and Lions Club.
“05 initiative in partnership with Ministry of Health and Restore Sight Africa have been moving from one Local Government to the other for the period of 72 days, we spend 3 days in each Local Government restoring sight”, she said.
The First Lady presented eye glasses to some beneficiaries who have been tested and prayed the glasses helps restore their eye challenges as the eye is the lamp of the body as she quoted from the Bible.
The Chairman, Nigeria Optometrist Association(NOA) Delta State Chapter, Dr. Romina Elurihuka Bello in her address stated the need for regular Eye examination as it will help detect vision impairment, prevent avoidable blindness and vision impairment. She called on the government and well-meaning Nigerias to partner with them in getting Optometrists to function everywhere as the theme for this year’s sight day is “ EYECARE EVERYWHERE”
