ABUJA/Nigeria: Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Elective Convention, Planning Committee and Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has again assured that the party’s elective convention shall be free, fair and transparent under his watch, come 9th December, 2017.
He gave the assurance while speaking on Monday 4th December 2017, on Channels Television political programme – “POLITICS TODAY”.
“I wish to assure Nigerians and members of our great party that the elective convention under my watch shall be free, fair and transparent.
“The open-secret ballot system enshrined in the PDP constitution will be adopted and all candidates shall be treated equally on a level playing ground.
“Our party is stronger today and the aftermath of the elective convention will further consolidate on the party’s strength and unity which automatically places the PDP in a better position to win 2019 general elections,” Gov Okowa said.
Executive Assistant on Communications to the Governor, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe quoted Gov Okowa as saying that the return of former Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s return to PDP shall be addressed by the Senator Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee, adding that Atiku and his supporters nationwide will add more electoral value to the party in future elections.
“I am pretty sure that the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Makarfi will brief me tonight or tomorrow on issues relating to the return of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“Atiku’s return will be handled at the highest level of the party. We need more people to join our great party which is why we are excited about the return of the former Vice President.
“The elective convention is another step taken to rebuild our party in line with PDP constitution after the unfortunate national leadership crisis that gave victory to the Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee. We are in a better position to rule the nation’s political landscape, going forward,” Gov Okowa added.
Oghenesivbe while reacting to his boss’s performance during the television interview said Gov Okowa spoke intelligently, adding that he was firm, focused, eloquent; and gave good account of himself as a well-informed political leader.
He further asserted that the SMART GOVERNOR of Delta State, brought to bear his sparkling and enviable leadership qualities during the interview, which has singled him out as a highly detribalized and focused politician, ever willing and prepared to serve the party, Delta State and the Nigerian Nation.
