Ukwuani: seven Youths of Ebedei Community Arrested by Soldiers

The people of Isemelu in Ebedei community has accused the management of Nest Oil Company Plc and some individuals in the community for illegally arresting youths of the community for what the community called a false accusation of planning to kidnap workers of the company.
Report reaching Ndokwa Reporters, says that the problem is on the issue of compensation of owners of the affected farm lands along the right of way of oil pipeline which the company is carrying out. The community’s grievance is on what they called no payment of compensation to the affected people.
However trouble started when the company moved in materials to start work, but were stopped pending when the issue is amicably resolved as the Transition Chairman of Ukwuani local Government, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor had already setup a committee to look into the issue and work out a way out. Our source said in the meeting, which was attended by the Chairman and some of his executives, the heads of the security formations in the council area, the community representatives, the company did not show up, this causing an adjournment till when the company will be present, but rather than to wait for that meeting to hold the company moved in to work. It was in attempt to stop the work that the seven youths of Isemelu were arrested for disrupting the company’s operations with intent to kidnap the workers.
In an sms sent to Ndokwa Reporters, titled” The Arrest of 7 members of the Community by Nest Oil Company Plc and Dr Ossai Great Anthony” by Mr Samuel Ossai, one of the community leaders, he accused the company of collaborating with individuals to deprive the community of their right by refusing to pay compensation to the affected land owners.
In a telephone interview, Dr Ossai Anthony denied the accusation, especially with the fact that he was involved in the arrest of the community youths. An attempt to reach the Community Liaison Officer of Nest Oil was not possible at press time.
