ASABA/Nigeria: The Federal Government has been called to take stern actions to improve the lives and secure the properties of Nigerians, as it’s main duty as the government of the people to do so.

The call was made by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in a communiqué issued at the end of its National Working Committee (NWC), and its Governors Forum in Asaba on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

The statement which was signed by the national Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Ayo Fayose.

The meeting called on the president to take responsibility on the protection of lives and property of Nigerians, and condemned the setting up of a committee to look into how to end the problem.

“The President must take responsibility on the protection of lives and property of Nigerians which is the most important of his responsibilities. We believe that the Federal Government’s decision to set up a Committee to address the issues of herdsmen killings is a pretentious approach to a matter that requires firm action and leadership by the President in line with his oath of office to protect all Nigerians irrespective of creed, tribe and political affiliation”.

The meeting while commenting on the issue of restructuring said that it has ordered its national assembly members to commence a process of initiating a bill to address issues bothering on restructuring, as it called the All Progress Congress, (APC) a later convert to restructuring as merely paying lib services, since the PDP had been the author of restructuring in the country, as was affirmed in the Report of the 2014 National Conference.

“The All Progressive Congress (APC) as a later day convert of restructuring is merely paying lip service to a matter of national importance. However, we have mandated our members in the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of initiating a Bill to address issues bothering on restructuring”.

On judiciary and corruption, they condemned in strong terms the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), activities in disobeying court judgements and orders, and continuous intimidation and harassment of Nigerians, or perceived political opponents, as they condemned the massive corruption going on the management of fuel subsidy regime which the federal government had said it is nonexistence.

“We condemn in strong terms the massive corruption going on in the management of fuel subsidy regime which the Federal Government had declared non existent while billions of Naira is deducted monthly at Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings”.

The issue of USD 1 Billion deduction from the Excess Crude Account by the federal Government, and condemned the deduction as it stated that its only the state and national assemblies are the only organs of government that has the power to do so.

“The PDP states and local governments are vehemently opposed to the unilateral withdrawal of USD1Billion from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government under any guise. We want to state unequivocally that neither the Governors’ Forum nor the Federal Executive Council has the power of appropriation of Federation Accounts, as such powers reside with the National and State Assemblies”.
