BENIN CITY/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has urged married couples to persevere in their marriage no matter the challenges.
The Governor made the call today, 30 September 2017 during a thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Rt. Hon. Damien and Rt. Hon. Esther Uduehi at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City, Edo State.
According to Governor Okowa who attended the ceremony with his wife, Edith and top government functionaries, “50th wedding ceremony anniversary is what everyone aspire to experience, it requires a lot of sacrifice, patience and perseverance.”
The Governor who commended the Uduehi’s on their successful marriage anniversary stated that “every father, mother aspires to celebrate 50 years of marriage and it is important that as parents, we should ensure proper upbringing of our children as we can witness in this celebration.”
“In this family, there is discipline and commitment to the bringing up of their children, parents should find time to bring up their children in the way of the Lord, with the fear of the Lord,” the Governor said, reiterating, “our children matters a lot, most of the problems we have in the country today as a nation would not have being there if parents have taken their time to ensure proper upbringing of their children.”
Earlier in a homily, the Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze asserted, “the sacrifice of matrimony offers couples the grace to survive the hardship and joy of marriage.”
“For more than half a century, the Uduehi’s lived as together for good times and bad times, this is a forum to encourage couples whose marriages are facing crisis not to give up because, they are one,” the Archbishop stated.
Eminent personalities, including former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue attended the event.
