DTSG Bans Collection of Haulage Fees

ASABA/Nigeria: The State Delta Government has directed the immediate stoppage of the collection of haulage fees by certain government departments until further notice.

A statement endorsed by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, explained that the directive became necessary due to several protests from affected citizens who complained that the process of collecting the fees amounted to multiple taxations.

The statement however noted that the directive does not include the collection of produce inspection fees by produce officers as well as the collection of permit fees for forestry operations through the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Environment respectively.

It called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies concerned with the collection of the haulage fees to comply with the stoppage directive by withdrawing their revenue consultants, agents, and personnel that had been deployed to enforce the collections from all roads and motor-parks until a more acceptable and transparent means of collection was worked out.
