OBIARUKU/Nigeria: Civil servants have been advised to cut down their expenses and live within their means at all times, even as the need to save for the future was stressed at the 11th Annual General Meeting of the Ukwuani Local Government Council Staff Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited held midweek at the council’s courtyard.
In his speech, the President of the society, Mr. Edwin Uboh appreciated the management of the council for their support, the Co-operative Management Committee, Area Co-operative Officer, Mr Mgbame C.K for his guidance and invaluable advice, the leadership of NULGE and the staff of the local government for their steadfastness, co-operation, support and confidence reposed on the management committee in the last 12 months.
Mr Uboh further lauded the staff for what he described as an unprecedented resilience throughout the period of half salary payment and non payment of salaries in some cases in the councils across the state as occasioned by the recession that hit the nation in 2016.
The President also announced a net surplus of #13,469,251.18k (Thirteen Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty One Naira, Eighteen Kobo) for the financial year 2017 as against #10,732,297.50k (Ten Million, Seven Hundred and Thirty Two Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety Seven Naira, Fifty Kobo) of the last AGM.
Meanwhile, all the members of the Management Committee of the Ukwuani Local Government Council Staff Multipurpose Co-operative Society Limited in an election conducted while the AGM lasted were unanimously returned unopposed to continue “to do their good works”, according to the co-operators.
In their separate remarks and appraisal of the 2017 Financial Year, most of the co-operators that spoke at the AGM applauded the management committee for what they described as “a job well done” since they took over the management of the society and prayed God to continue to grant them the wisdom to steer the society to greater heights.
