OREROKPE/Nigeria: Following the empowerment program embarked upon by the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sherrif Oborevwori last Saturday, a group under the auspices of True Governance and Transparent Movement, yesterday, described the empowerment as long overdue and political gimmicks.
The group in a statement by it’s state Chairman, Master Smith Oforubu and Secretary, Master Smith Oforubu said the desire of Okpe nation is to have constant electricity and good road network, said the empowerment and the presumed N20m scholarship scheme schedule for a fresh date are all political games against 2019 house assembly contest.
The statement had revealed that the empowerment was planned to calm all all aggrieved persons, mostly with the presence of the state governor as a proof to convince the electorates that he has a cordial and robust relationship with the present government while his people are yet to feel the presence of government in Okpe constituency.
The statement reads, “We don’t need individual empowerment, give our people electricity, good road not this evening empowerment because you are planning to contest the 2019 elections. This is pure political gimmicks, but thank God our people are enlightened and are ready with their Permanent Voters Card.
“Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe local government has been suffering electricity problem over the years, coupled with the abandoned Orerokpe-Oha-Oviorie road with its economic value, yet no signs from our representative as part of his constituency responsibility to his people.
“Let the governor visit Okpe everyday, that will not change Okpe mindset if there are signs to bring or attract development to your constituency, empowerment is secondary and it was even overdue, not when we expected it to come! This empowerment is another process of getting our votes without dividends at the end of the day.”
