OPINION: Does the Political Parties Determines Who Should Be The Leaders Of National, States Assemblies

By Blessed Hosanna Ejogharado

On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, there was a report in social media, that members of DSS operatives lay siege in the official residence of the Senate President and his Deputy in a bid to preventing them from going to the National Assembly to perform their duties for which they were elected in other to impeach them because that Tuesday, it was rumoured that some senators will be defecting from APC to PDP.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2018 the same DSS Operatives under the guise that they were acting on “Order from above” blocked the National Assembly entrance preventing senators from entering the National Assembly premises.

The reason is that since Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has defected from the APC to the PDP he must be impeached by all means whether they can get 2/3 majority or not.

Mr. Adams Oshiomhole thought that politics is unionism where he can get road side thugs to stage protest against government.

I begin to wonder if Comrade Oshiomhole has ever read the constitution. Let me remind Mr. Oshiomhole that on December 3, 2014, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, then PDP Speaker in the House of Representatives announced his defection from the ruling party then PDP to the opposition APC.

On the 4th day December, 2014 the APC had their meeting. Hear what Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari then APC Presidential Aspirant said about Tambuwal’s defection.

“We will like to thank Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal for what he did yesterday. We were overwhelmed. Taking such a remarkable risk and sending everybody on holidays till December is an achievement”.

In his contribution, then publicity secretary of APC, now Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has this to say, “I must say that this historic development means that our democracy is growing by the day and it is dynamic. On more serious note, we welcome the defection of Tambuwal to APC with this defection, APC has now taken the LEADERSHIP OF ONE ARM OF THE NATIONAL LEGISLATURE. (Emphasis is mine) We think that having the head of the legislature from the opposition party makes for a balanced setting in government and its good for democracy.

Those who are saying this has not happened before and that Tambuwal shouted step aside as speaker do not have the backing of history and the constitution”.

And in the same meeting, the then minority leader now majority leader in the House of Representatives has this to say “We welcome and applaud the speaker” decision. We are proud to acknowledge that the speaker remains not only a member of the House of Representatives but also its speaker. This position is consistent with the law and practice in a presidential system. For the avoidance of doubt, the constitution requires only that the speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be elected by members of that House from AMONG THEMSELVES”. (Emphasis mine)

Oshiomhole, did you get that? Has the constitution that is consistent for a defecting speaker not to lose its seat been amended?

Did PDP at that time threatened that Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal should be corrected, neither the DSS nor the EFCC that was under the control of PDP blocked his official residence?

Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, should note that he is still Major General Muhammadu Buhari of 1983 to 1985.

There is different between military regime and democracy dispensation.

Well, one is not surprised because PMB is a killer of democracy he did it in December 1983 when he truncated the Alhaji Shehu Shagari’s democratic government.

What PMB government is doing now is to plunk the country into civil war if PMB had not travelled to London for 10 days vacation when his brother Alhaji Daura lay siege in Saraki and Ekweremadu’s residence and the National Assembly, Daura would not have been sacked.

Without authorization, Judges, who were having their sweet sleep were disturbed by Alhaji Daura in October 8, 2017 under the pretence that it was “Order from above”. And the judges so affected have been set free by Court of Competent Jurisdiction. That above is enough for PMB to resign. He did not because he has not completed his assignment to Islamised Nigeria and to use his herdsmen to kill, maimed and make so many children orphans.

Like somebody sent to my whatsapp, the person asked rhetorically that “how many times has the United Kingdom Prime Minister spent her vacation in Nigeria.

During the electioneery campaign, Muhammadu Buhari accused President Jonathan Goodluck of globe trottem and promised that he was not going to spend Nigeria money in criss crossing the globe.

For the 3 ½ years, Buhari assumed Office as president, he has travelled the world more than Jonathan Goodluck six years in government.

Buhari promised that if voted in as President he would reduce fuel to N45 per litre and that the Naira will be at per with Dollar. That time a litre of fuel was N87 Naira and a Dollar was N160, But today a litre is N145 and a Dolar is now N362.20.

A bag of rice was between N8,000 to N9,000 but today a bag of rice is between N16,000 to N25,000.

PMB government said he is diversifying into agriculture where we will be self sufficient.

Most of the food we consumed in Nigeria comes from Benue, Plateau, in fact, Middle Bet.

But today, this people are in IDP Camp, they can no longer go to farm in-fact, their homes have been destroyed by PMB fellow Fulani herdsmen. How are we diversifying, when the people who are supposed to go to farm to produce food are in IDP camp. No wonder Mr. Babachir the erstwhile Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria spent N127m to clear grass for the IDPs.

Mr. Adams Oshiomhole said that Saraki must be impeached. What concerns Oshiomhole with the affairs of the National Assembly? Did you not hear Femi Gbajabiamila said that the constitution allowed the National Assembly to elect their leaders from among themselves not from party in power but from among themselves?

I am aware that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole was elected as National Chairman of APC not as a member of National Assembly.

In Luke gospel 6:31 and Matt. 7:12 the Bible says “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise”.

If Aminu Tambuwal in 2014 defected from the ruling PDP to opposition then APC and heaven did not fall, I wonder why Oshiomhole want heaven to fall because Abubakar Bukola Saraki defected from APC to PDP. Do you forget that in 2014 the same Abubakar Bukola Saraki defected from PDP to APC and you welcome him then? Let us face the governance and forget what will truncate our nascent democracy.

Section 50 (1) (a & b) of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended (a) says, a President and a Deputy President of the senate who shall be elected by the members of that house from among themselves.

Section 2: The President or Deputy President of the Senate or the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall vacate his office.

Section (2c) if he is removed from office by a resolution of the senate or by the House of Representative as the case may be, by the votes of not less than two thirds majority of the members of that house”.

Not of the member of APC present of the senate or the house but of the majority members of that house.

There is nowhere in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended whereby, the power to remove presiding officers of the senate or the House of Representatives is vested on a Political Parties.

The wise men that drafted the constitution realized that the Senate or the House of Representatives would be made up of members of different Political Parties and once they are there, the cease to represent party but Nigerians that gave them the mandate.

So therefore, Mr. Comr. Adams Oshiomhole mind the office of the Chairman of the APC for which you are voted for and stop melding with the business of the members of the senate and the House of Representatives.

Where 8 legislators are more than 22 legislators to impeach governor in Benue State because he has defected to PDP should not be encouraged.

Rotimi Ameachi was voted as PDP Governor in Rivers State and he defected to APC.

Minority members of Rivers House of Assembly did not impeach him.
