FRSC Enjoins Road Users to Obey Traffic Rules

Road users in Delta State have been advised to obey road traffic and safety rules to minimize road traffic crashes.
The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission, Delta State Command, Corps Etuk J. I gave the advice at a one day sensitization workshop on road safety measures and regulations, organized by Asaba Community Youths Organization in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police Force.
The FRSC Sector Commander, who was represented by the Deputy Route Commander, Julius Bassey, said “most of the road traffic crashes are avoidable and preventable, saying that 80 percent of road traffic crashes are caused by man.”
He cautioned drivers to be careful when driving under special conditions like driving under the rain, at night and driving in a convoy, stressing that low speed should be maintained.
The Sector Commander stated that we can maintain zero road traffic crashes if every road user operates within the rules of road usage and have a positive attitude towards safety rules, even as he urged road users to be conscious of their lives and that of others around them.
“As a driver you drive yourself, the vehicle in front and the one behind you. Considering other drivers as insane or mad, will help you to drive carefully” he said.
He advised that road users to avoid drink-driving as someone under the influence of alcohol cannot coordinate himself, just as he exhorted drivers to avoid driving bumper to bumper.
Speaking, the Asaba Community Youths Organization sensitization Committee, Mr. Joe Okonweze, stated that the workshop was organized because there is need to sensitize road users on safety measures and regulations and to make them think safety to arrive alive to their destination.
The Chairman of the Asaba Community Youths Organization, Mr. Joe Okafor while addressing the gathering stated that the organization will always collaborate with other organizations to ensure peace, unity and development in Asaba.
The Workshop which was organized by the Asaba Community Youths Organization was to sensitize the road users on simple safety measures and regulations to avoid road traffic crashes.
Present at the workshop were the representative of the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Peter Onwusanya, Mr. Ogwugwo Ogosi, the Chairman of Okada Riders Association, Asaba, the Chairman of Tippers and Quarry Association and others.
