ABUJA/Nigeria: With the rising temple in triaing and subsequent jailing of the former leaders, especially past governors, with the latest being that of former Governor Orji Kalu, there seems to be fear among Governors numbering about nine with ongoing corruption cases.
The former Abia state Governor is the second former governor to be jailed after former Plateau state governor, Joshua Dariye.
Many ex-Governors are reported to be scared especially as Kalu’s closeness to the Presidency has failed to stop his sentencing.
A source who is close to one of the ex-governors with a multi -billion Naira corruption case told Sahel Standard in Abuja that the former state chief executive cancelled his engagements for today after the announcement of the ruling.
“Fear and apprehension everywhere. He called his friends around. I think there is fear. If Kalu can fall like this, nobody is safe”the source said.
It would be recalled that Ex-Governors with corruption cases include those already charged to court , those under investigation. Many of the governors have defected to the ruling party while others are still within the opposition PDP
A Federal High Court had found a former Abia State Governor, ORJI UZOR KALU, & 2 others GUILTY of N7.65bn FRAUD.
Kalu’s co-defendants are his firm, Slok Nigeria Ltd. &Udeh Udeogu, who was Director of Accounts at the Abia State Govt House during Kalu’s tenure as governor.
