  • Okowa Receives the most friendly Governor to the unemployed Award.

 
The Delta state Government has stated that the Okowa’s Administration job creation scheme is a programme for only willing, interested and able youths in the state.
This statement was made by the Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, during the one day conference of the Nigeria National Union of the Unemployed Graduates (NNUUG), Delta State Chapter, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Asaba, the state capital, in an occasion the governor was also invested with the “Most friendly Governor to the Unemployed”, Award.DSC_4456
The Governor who was represented by the Director of Job Creation in the State, Prof. Eric Eboh said that the government has to make it clear at this early stage of the programme so that the intending beneficiaries will know the seriousness the government is attaching to the success of the programme, because of past experiences in running such empowerment schemes.DSC_4457
According to the Governor, the six schemes are fashioned to fulfil his campaign promises and theme, “Prosperity for All Deltans”, which is embedded in the government SMART agenda, which is to equip the average “Deltans, youths and job seekers with skills, resources and the right orientation, to become more productively equipped, self-employed or to become more ready for employment in agriculture, industry, and the rest of the economy”. He said.
Speaking, further the government stated that, the Youth, Agricultural Development Entrepreneur Programme (YADEP), and the other five schemes are focussed in the training, supporting and establishing willing, interested and able youths in agricultural enterprises for decent and gainful self-employment and wealth creation, he therefore used the opportunity of the conference to call on the intending participants to first be willing, interested and be readily able to execute the plans of the government after the completion of the training which will start as the necessary data capturing ends.
The state government also used the occasion to work with the NNUUG, to solve the unemployment programme in the state, as he puts it, “With such body as the unemployed graduates, it means part of the solution to the job problem in the State is solved, since there is evidence that there are people who are employable, but they have no job”. He concluded.

The Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa had being described as the most friendly governor to the unemployed in Nigeria, as he has shown immediately at innuaguration by kick starting the employment schemes to take away joblessness and unemployment from Deltans.DSC_0002
This appraisal was giving during the conference of the Nigeria National Union of Unemployed Graduate, (NNUUG), in Asaba, by the National Patron of the group, Bishop Greatman Orji Nmalagu.
According to Bishop Nmalagu, the NNUUG members deemed it fit to recognised the governor, and give him such award, because of his past records as job provider for the employable ones in Delta state, which he had again demonstrated within the less than three months of his administration by starting the various empowerments and job creation schemes in Delta state.DSC_4477
According to the Bishop, the governor through the establishment of these programmes actually is fulfilling his campaign promises, of “Prosperity for All Deltans”, as the creation and starting of the various empowerment schemes is based on that slogan”. He said.
Meanwhile, the body of the unemployed graduate has asked the Delta state government to work with the NNUUG, to properly eliminate the scourge of unemployment in Delta state, the body stated this in an address giving by the President, Com. Micheal Asiwe Jnr, during the conference.DSC_6089
According to Com Asiwe, the body among other things was formed to established and secure a system that will cater for the needs of Nigerian Employable Graduates through peaceful dialogue with the government, to widen the scope of interaction between the group and government in the area of provision of employment opportunists, welfare packages, to advise and provide information for the needy and recommend those in need of employment opportunities to the relevant agencies, among others.
The conferences which was attended by the unemployed from the 25 LGA ‘s and members of the public also witnessed a lecture with the Theme: Graduates for Nation Building, with sub titles, Sustainable Development in Nigeria: The role of Nigeria University Graduates, delivered by a lecturer from the Fine and Applied Arts Department, Delta state University, Prof. Osa Egonwa, and Prof. Austine Anigala, the Vice Chancellor Academics, who delivered a paper titled, “Factors Required to be a Graduate that can Assist in Nation Building”
