AGBOR/Nigeria: For close to five days now, Ika land and environ have been thrown into total darkness and confusion following the inability of Benin Power Distribution Company (BEDC).
Some residents who spoke with us expressed their displeasure over the total obscurity being experienced residents. Some of them were the view that (BEDC) have revealed their incompetence.
According them, ” there was no sort of notice or announcement to pre info the people. They just wake up suddenly and knock several towns and community into darkness without explanation’.
Mr. Kennedy Ngbeken, a businessman and public analyst noted it is high time BEDC wake up to their responsibility.
“Things are not done this way, catalogue of complaints abounds over the poor services of BEDC, leaving the people in darkness without apologies and notice is gross misconduct” he stated
Mr. Ngbeken pointed out that people have lost millions of Naira over the lapses on the part of power providers.
“The food that countless people may have stacked in their refrigerators, many others whose businesses depends on them. Let me also info you that some people may have died due to this unfortunate incident especially those on life support machines in the hospital’ he noted.
Also speaking, the secretary of Ika Rice Dealers’ Association, Pastor Onyekachukwu Money was of the view that the management and staffers of BEDC be meant to undergo re-orientation of how to offer quality services to their customers.
According to him, in the recent past, many service providers in the country have improved, but the likes of BEDC were still operating in archaic manner.
“They dish out estimated bills without regards, embarked on senseless disconnection, treat their customers as slaves. I go on and on”.
He suggested that government and concerned authorities should bring in other electricity distribution companies into the fray in order avoid monopoly.
