DSTG To Create Social Register For Vulnerable Population

AGBOR/Nigeria: Delta State Government has reiterated its determination to create a social register of persons living with disabilities as well as the vulnerable population of the State with a view to providing socio-economic assistance that will enhance their means of livelihood in the State.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian and Community Support Services, Bridget Anyafulu made this known today in Owa-Eke, Ika North East LGA of the State during a meeting with persons living with disabilities in both Ika North East and Ika South Council Areas of the State.

The Commissioner reiterated the Okowa led administration’s resolve in partnering with persons living with disabilities through small holder farming, micro businesses and the rest which will aid them live meaningful lives with their families because there’s ability in disability.

Anyafulu appealed to them to cooperate with Government by making sure that the capturing exercise is successful in their various communities without any form of exclusion of targeted persons.

At Issele-Uku, the Headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government, the Commissioner in her address assured persons living with disabilities of government’s efforts at making sure no one is left out of the scheme across the Council Area.

In a related development, the Commissioner lauded the philanthropic strides of Okowa Victory Foundation for instituting ten thousand naira (N10, 000.00) monthly salary structure for persons living with disabilities in four Local Government of the State which is in line with the core value of the Directorate of Humanitarian and Community Support Services.

The Project Coordinator, Mr. Teddy Ashiedu revealed that the programme was powered by Mr. Wise Okowa, younger brother to the state governor and that the programmme started before this administration came to power.

He said that the Okowa Victory Foundation caters for over 381,000 persons living with disabilities in four LGAs which include Ika South, Ika North East, Aniocha South and Aniocha North and the Foundation is extending towards Oshimili North LGA.

She also commended Hope for Now Organization for its forth coming medical outreach scheduled to hold at the Health Centre, Issele-Uku from the 14th and 15th of the month of March.
