ASABA/Nigeria: Former Executive Assistant on Communications, Olorogun Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, has expressed satisfaction with the reception organized by the people of Ika to honour Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, in an event that was held to appreciate Okowa’s remarkable achievements during his tenure.
The former Executive Assistant stated this on the side of the reception that took place in Owa Modern College, Bojo Boji Owa on Saturday, June 3, 2023, while highlighting several areas where Okowa made significant contributions, as the reason for the celebration.
He stated that Infrastructure development was a key focus of Okowa’s administration, as he used his his eight-year tenure,to construct almost 3,000 kilometers of roads, 2,500 kilometers of drains and bridges were built, which notable projects include the construction of a world-class floating market in Warri North Local Government Area, a state Secretariat, three universities, technical colleges, a Teachers Institute, and a Road Safety Training School.
“Okowa also prioritized fiscal discipline and efficient management of state resources, leading to uncommon transformation in all sectors. He invested in sports infrastructure, making Delta a champion in national sports competitions. Notably, the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba and Asaba International Airport were upgraded under his leadership.”
“Additionally, Okowa prioritized peace and security in the state, providing support to security agencies and ensuring the state’s position as a leader in oil revenue generation. He also built a Secretariat for the State Traditional Institution and effectively led the Delta State structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winning several election victories during his tenure.”
“One of Okowa’s significant achievements was poverty reduction through human capital development, job creation, and vocational training programs. Programs such as Rysa, Step, Yagep, and Project GEST helped thousands of Delta youth and women acquire skills and start their own businesses. Okowa also provided welfare packages and monthly stipends for widows across the state.”
“Oghenesivbe expressed gratitude to the Ika nation for producing such a leader and celebrated the continuity of Okowa’s legacy through the newly elected Governor, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Francis Oborevwori. He highlighted Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, human capital development, and social investment programs, emphasizing his vision, philanthropy, and inclusive governance approach.” He said.
