ASABA/Nigeria: In a long-awaited announcement on Tuesday, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, declared the approval of a substantial sum of N5 billion to clear promotion arrears owed to workers in the State. The Governor, during his visit to the Professor Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, revealed that the payment would be disbursed in three installments, commencing in August and concluding by October 2023.
The payment comes as a result of a demand made by the workers prior to the Governorship election in the State. Having promised to address this issue once he assumed office, Governor Oborevwori fulfilled his commitment, expressing his dedication to fulfilling promises made to the people of Delta State.
Addressing the workers directly, Governor Oborevwori emphasized his role as a “promise keeper” and stressed his duty to serve all Deltans through his M.O.R.E Agenda. He assured the workers that despite the considerable financial undertaking involved in the payment, he had already signed the necessary documents to authorize the disbursement.
“We know the money is huge; it’s almost N5 billion, but I promised to pay you and I have signed the memo and approved it,” Governor Oborevwori affirmed.
The ecstatic workers responded with gratitude and support, pledging their unwavering commitment to the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which outlines his vision for the State’s progress.
Accompanied by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, and other top government officials, Governor Oborevwori’s visit was met with jubilation from the workers, who praised him as the first Governor to visit them at their Secretariat. The approval of the promotion arrears is seen as a significant step to foster goodwill and productivity among the State’s workforce.
The payment of the N5 billion promotion arrears will undoubtedly bring relief and satisfaction to the diligent workers who have been awaiting this development for several years.
