IBADAN/Nigeria: In a significant move towards urban transformation and technological advancement, the Oyo State Waste Management Consultant, Mottainai Recycling Ltd., has unveiled plans to train 100 talented youths as Geographic Information System (GIS) experts. This groundbreaking initiative, aimed at bolstering sustainable smart city waste management, was announced by the Chief Operating Officer of Mottainai Recycling Ltd., Ms. Oluwaseun Fasuhanmi.
Ms. Fasuhanmi underscored the collaborative nature of this endeavor with the Oyo State Government, emphasizing the shared commitment to addressing urban challenges through technology-driven solutions. The primary goal is to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment while harnessing the potential of the youth in shaping Oyo’s future.
“The youth of today possess a remarkable capacity for innovation and adaptability. By involving them in shaping our future, we are not only creating opportunities for personal growth but also infusing into the state fresh perspectives and inventive ideas that young individuals bring to the table as well as dynamic ideas that will drive positive change,” she stated.
The Sustainable Smart City Waste Management training program is set to cover comprehensive GIS techniques, applications, and hands-on experience. The aim is to equip these youths with proficiency in geospatial techniques and data analytics, enabling them to play a vital role in the waste management sector. This includes optimizing service delivery, enhancing waste collection routes, identifying critical areas for waste disposal, and implementing sustainable waste management practices.
Ms. Fasuhanmi highlighted that this initiative aligns with the vision of OMITUNTUN 2.0, as Oyo State embraces digital innovations to enhance the quality of life for its residents. It seeks to create a vibrant ecosystem that fosters innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth.
Through the program, selected youths will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from improving transportation systems and waste management to enhancing public services and urban planning. This hands-on experience will provide them with invaluable skills, mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies, positioning them as agents of change in Oyo State’s transformation journey.
“We encourage interested individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply for this transformative opportunity. Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to Oyo State’s economic growth, job creation, and environmental stewardship,” Ms. Fasuhanmi emphasized.
