LAGOS/Nigeria: In a remarkable display of commitment to its mission, The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) is gearing up to host the 4th edition of the Bible Quiz for the Deaf. This event, specifically designed for the hearing-impaired community, will be conducted entirely in the Nigerian Sign Language.
The quiz is scheduled to take place at the Christian Mission for the Deaf, Shomolu, Lagos, on November 9, 2023.
The Bible Society of Nigeria has long been dedicated to making the Holy Bible accessible to all Nigerians in their preferred languages and formats, and this event is one of their many initiatives aimed at helping people engage with the Word of God through life-transforming programs. As a not-for-profit interdenominational Christian organization, BSN takes pride in translating the Bible into Nigerian languages, publishing, distributing, and raising funds for Bible work.
The 4th edition of the Bible Quiz for the Deaf will feature contestants hailing from 11 different schools for the deaf. These participants will be tasked with answering questions derived from the Chronological Bible Stories that have been thoughtfully translated into Nigerian Sign Language by The Bible Society of Nigeria.
The heart of this effort resides in the BSN’s Deaf Translation Centre, located in Ibadan, Oyo State. Here, a dedicated team of professionals works tirelessly to translate the Bible into the Nigerian Sign Language, ensuring that the deaf community can have meaningful access to the scripture.
The impact of BSN’s work in the field of language translation is evident, with the organization having successfully completed the translation of the entire Bible into 27 Nigerian languages. Furthermore, they have produced an impressive 222 Chronological Bible Stories in Nigerian Sign Language, specifically designed for the Deaf.
As the 4th edition of the Bible Quiz for the Deaf approaches, it’s a testament to the Bible Society of Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and their mission to help all Nigerians engage with the Word of God, irrespective of language or hearing ability. This event is a testament to their tireless dedication to this noble cause.
