Oyo State Government Partners with University of Ibadan Technical Team to Tackle Water Supply Challenges

IBADAN/Nigeria: In a bid to address the persistent water supply challenges plaguing Oyo State, the state government has initiated a collaborative effort with a Technical Team from the University of Ibadan.

Chairman of the Oyo State Water Corporation, Hon. Elias Adeojo, disclosed this significant development during a press conference held in Ibadan today, where he introduced the Technical Team and outlined the strategy for intervention.

“The Corporation has joined hands with this esteemed Technical Team from the University of Ibadan due to their unparalleled enthusiasm, extensive experience, and renowned expertise,” Hon. Adeojo emphasized. He reiterated the goal of resolving the issue of inconsistent water supply in the state and ensuring its sustainability in the long run through this partnership.

The focal point of this collaboration, as highlighted by Adeojo, will commence with the Asejire Water Supply Scheme, a pivotal component of the Corporation’s water production.

Professor Bamidele Dahunsi, a prominent member of the Technical Team and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ibadan, expressed the team’s commitment to revitalizing the essential infrastructure of the Water Corporation. “We stand ready to collaborate with the Corporation to refurbish and enhance critical infrastructure,” Prof. Dahunsi affirmed, pledging unwavering support to the Oyo State Government’s endeavor to provide clean water to its residents.

Highlighting the downturn in the Corporation’s service, Prof. Dahunsi underscored the urgency of their support to the government, emphasizing that the success of this collaboration would mark a significant achievement for the State.

Echoing similar sentiments, Engr S.O. Adesogan, another member of the Technical Team from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ibadan, stressed the importance of schemes like Asejire in restoring the state’s water production capability.

He expressed confidence in Governor Engr Seyi Makinde’s support and the Corporation’s leadership in reestablishing its legacy of providing water to the people of Oyo State.

The unanimity among the members of the Technical Team, including Prof. A R Zubair from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Prof Odesola Issac from the Department of Electrical and Hydro-electrical Engineering, further solidifies the collaborative efforts aimed at resolving the longstanding water supply challenges in Oyo State.
