PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: In a remarkable feat, the Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne Port, Rivers State, has shattered previous records by achieving an extraordinary daily revenue collection of ₦22,184,899,508.00. This historic milestone, as disclosed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Lomba Benjamin, marks a significant leap from the previous daily collections.
Furthermore, the Command has also reported an unprecedented monthly revenue of ₦50,863,053,945.54 for February 2024, surpassing all previous records. The total revenue generated in forty-nine working days of 2024, covering January, February, and part of March, amounted to ₦124,652,728,187.50, a figure that surpasses the total revenue collected in six months of the previous year.
Comptroller Baba Imam, the Customs Area Controller, highlighted four key records broken by the Command in 2024. Notably, February witnessed the highest revenue ever generated in the history of Area II Command, surpassing both monthly targets and previous revenue figures. The daily collection on March 7th also marked the highest revenue generated in a single day.
Imam emphasized the Command’s achievement of surpassing its daily revenue target by over 1000%, a historic first. He attributed these accomplishments to stakeholder engagement, zero tolerance for revenue leakages, and effective synergy and intelligence sharing.
Looking ahead, the Area Controller expressed optimism in sustaining this revenue generation trend to surpass both monthly and yearly targets for 2024. He also highlighted the Command’s commendation from the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi MFR, for its weekly sporting activities, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance.
In conclusion, Comptroller Baba Imam urged other Commands to embrace similar initiatives for the betterment of all officers and the effective discharge of their responsibilities.
