ABRAKA/Nigeria: The Delta State University, Abraka, has released the comprehensive schedule for its much-anticipated 16th Convocation Ceremony, set to honor the 2022/2023 graduands across various academic programs. The event promises a blend of solemnity, celebration, and academic excellence, spanning eight days of diverse activities.

Day 1: Friday, 19th April, 2024
The ceremony commences with Jumat Prayers dedicated to Muslim members of the DELSU community, setting a tone of spiritual reflection and inclusivity.
Day 2: Sunday, 21st April, 2024
The Convocation festivities continue with a Pre-Convocation Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Site II, DELSU, Abraka. The service, scheduled for 8:30 am, serves as a moment of gratitude and reverence.
Day 3: Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024
- a) The Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference at 10:00 am offers a platform for key announcements and insights from the university leadership.
- b) Following this, the Opening of Arts Exhibition at 1:00 pm showcases the creative prowess of DELSU’s students, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the proceedings.
Day 4: Wednesday, 24th April, 2024
Alumni Day, starting at 11:00 am, provides an opportunity for former students to reconnect, reminisce, and reaffirm their commitment to the university’s legacy.
Day 5: Thursday, 25th April, 2024
The Convocation Drama, slated for 4:00 pm, promises captivating performances that blend entertainment with social commentary, showcasing the artistic talents nurtured within the DELSU community.
Day 6: Friday, 26th April, 2024
The Convocation Lecture, a highlight of the event, commences at 10:00 am, featuring esteemed speakers offering profound insights into relevant academic, societal, and global issues.
Day 7: Saturday, 27th April, 2024
- a) Commencing at 9:00 am, the Commissioning of Projects underscores DELSU’s commitment to infrastructural development and academic advancement.
- b) The pinnacle of the ceremony unfolds with the Award of Diplomas, First Degrees, Higher Degrees, and Prizes, alongside the Investiture of Professor Emeritus and Conferment of Honorary Degrees.
Day 8: Tuesday, 30th April, 2024
The Convocation festivities draw to a close with the Founders’ Day Thanksgiving Service at Our Saviour’s Chapel, Site II, DELSU, Abraka, starting at 9:00 am, honoring the institution’s rich heritage and visionary founders.
Graduands and attendees are reminded of various procedural aspects, including gown collection, payment details, and ceremony etiquette, outlined meticulously by the university administration.

Diploma and First Degree Graduands are to pay the sum of N5, 000 only for the hiring of the Academic gown, N10, 000 for Convocation Brochure, N13, 500 for Students’ Transcript and N10, 000 for the book The Story of DELSU @ 30.

All graduands wishing to collect Academic outfit are to deposit the original copies of their Statement of Results (as applicable) and also show evidence of payment for hiring of the Academic gown in the Faculty Offices. These will be returned to the rightful owners on return of the Academic outfits in good condition not later than Friday, 3rd May, 2024. Failure to return an academic gown within the stipulated period attracts a penalty fee of N500 per day.
POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS
Postgraduate graduands (Doctorate and Master’s) are to collect their Academic gowns and other items after payment of prescribed fees from the Secretary of the Postgraduate School.
COLLECTION OF ACADEMIC GOWNS
Collection of Academic gowns and other items starts on Friday, 19th April, 2024 and ends on Friday, 26th April, 2024.
PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC GOWNS
Postgraduate graduands (Doctorate and Master’s) are required to pay the sum of N50, 000 and N40, 000 respectively, into the Account listed as number 1 below for the purchase of Academic gowns. They are also required to pay the sum of ten thousand naira (N10, 000) for the book The Story of DELSU@ 30 into the Account listed as number 2 below. Those who have already made the payments should please ignore this directive.

Parents/Guardians and invited guests are advised to be seated NOT LATER than 9:00am on the Convocation day.
Graduands should please take note of the following:
- Graduands are to join the Convocation Procession by 9:00am.
- Graduands in each Faculty are expected to be seated in the section provided for them in the Convocation Arena.
- Unauthorized movements and taking of photographs will not be allowed during the Convocation Ceremony. Graduands are therefore, advised to complete such activity before coming into the Convocation Arena or wait till after the Ceremony. This is to ensure orderliness during the Convocation Ceremony
- Graduands and invited guests under the canopy in the Arena are requested to be orderly, rise and be on their feet as the Academic Procession enters and leaves the Convocation Arena.
- Graduands should be properly robed and are also advised to conform to the colour prescribed for their Faculties.
- All graduands are required to immediately commence and complete the process of their clearance in their College/School/Faculty before the Convocation Ceremony in order to facilitate the collection of their Degree Certificates on the day of Convocation.
- Graduands are requested to provide active email addresses for the receipt of copies of their students’ transcripts.
