ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to address the persistent challenges surrounding pension payments, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has appointed Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje as the Chairman of the Delta State Bureau of Pensions. The inauguration ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, marks a significant step towards resolving bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensuring timely disbursement of pensions across the state.

Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant on Communications to the Governor, emphasized the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, stating, “The issue of backlog of pensions of retired and retiring civil servants will soon be a thing of the past.” Oghenesivbe highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to improving the lives of pensioners, a pledge made during his election campaigns.

Describing Governor Oborevwori as a “promise keeper” and a leader with meticulous attention to detail, Oghenesivbe expressed confidence in Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s ability to lead the Pensions Bureau effectively. Ogidi-Gbegbaje, a seasoned public servant who recently retired as Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocols, is expected to leverage his expertise to expedite pension payments and advise the state government on necessary reforms.

The appointment of Ogidi-Gbegbaje has been met with widespread approval, with Oghenesivbe noting, “Gbegbaje’s appointment by Governor Oborevwori was greeted with loud ovation across the state.” This move reaffirms the governor’s determination to address the longstanding issue of pension backlog and improve the welfare of retirees.

In addition to the appointment of Ogidi-Gbegbaje, Governor Oborevwori inaugurated several other officials, including Special Advisers and members of various boards and commissions.
