WARRI/Nigeria: In a bid to tackle the prevailing economic challenges, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), in collaboration with the Environmental and Rural Mediation Centre (ENVIRUMEDIC), has initiated the distribution of 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to impoverished residents across all 25 local government areas of Delta State.

Speaking to journalists, the Executive Director ENVIRUMEDIC, Chief Monday Itoghor, lauded the ADF for spearheading the crucial food intervention program, affirming, “It’s a practical demonstration of the foundation’s commitment to upholding its values of compassion and solidarity that are at the core of humanity.”

He further revealed that the distribution commenced on April 22, 2024, with the full cooperation of the Delta State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, marking a well-coordinated and highly successful endeavor set to conclude on May 8, 2024.

Chief Itoghor emphasized the inclusivity of the program, highlighting that 150 communities spanning all local government areas, including riverine communities, stand to benefit.

Moreover, he issued a call to action, urging stakeholders, both corporate entities and individuals, to emulate the philanthropic spirit of the Aliko Dangote Foundation by supporting governmental efforts to provide palliatives, thereby alleviating the country’s harsh economic conditions and fostering a sense of belonging among Nigeria’s less privileged.

Expressions of gratitude poured in from beneficiaries, with indigent women particularly vocal in their appreciation, celebrating the benevolent gesture with songs and dances while praying for blessings upon the Dangote Foundation.

This initiative follows the recent rollout of over 1,000,000 bags of 10kg rice across all 774 local governments in Nigeria by the ADF. Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group and Chairman of ADF, reiterated his commitment to combating poverty nationwide during the flagging-off ceremonies held in Kano and Lagos.
