ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been named the Delta Man of the Year 2024 following a public survey conducted by The NEHEMS-CAPOIN, an independent, non-governmental organization committed to promoting people-centered leadership and good governance.
The award was formally presented at an event titled “The Media Unveiling for Delta Man of the Year 2024 Award” held in Asaba, where Oborevwori emerged ahead of Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, and Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) of Tantita Security Services, a key player in Nigeria’s oil and gas security sector.
According to the final poll results, Oborevwori secured 359 votes—349 from physical voting and 10 from online participation. Nwoko followed closely with 329 votes, comprising 172 from physical polling and 157 online, while Tompolo garnered 164 votes, with 148 from physical votes and 16 from online.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Victor Sorokwu, Executive Director of The NEHEMS-CAPOIN, assured that the selection process was devoid of political interference, noting that the survey aimed to assess public perception of leadership and governance in Delta State. He explained that nominees were selected from the state’s three senatorial districts through random sampling, with Oborevwori representing Delta Central, Nwoko from Delta North, and Tompolo from Delta South.
“The NEHEMS-CAPOIN is committed to fostering good governance by providing feedback on leadership performance. This is not an election but a public assessment aimed at offering constructive insights to those in leadership,” Sorokwu stated.
He further disclosed that physical polling was conducted in key locations across the state, including Abraka (Delta Central), Ozoro (Delta South), and Asaba (Delta North), with voting taking place over four weeks and concluding at 11:59 p.m. on Friday.
Announcing the results, Sorokwu emphasized the credibility of the process, stating: “Following a meticulous verification process, the final votes stand as follows: Chief Government Ekpemupolo with 164 votes, Senator Ned Nwoko with 329 votes, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori leading with 359 votes. Based on these findings, we proudly declare Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the Delta Man of the Year 2024.”
In total, the three nominees secured 852 out of the 900 expected physical votes, alongside additional online votes.
