Unique Nobles 90 Inducts Professors Ifelunini, Ogwezzy into Hall of Champions

ABBI/Nigeria: The Unique Nobles 90 Association has honored two distinguished scholars, Professor Abanum Innocent Ifelunini of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Professor Michael Chukwujindu Ogwezzy of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), by inducting them into the Nobles 90 Hall of Champions for Academic Excellence.

The induction ceremony, held at De Goodies Garden Hotel, Abbi, attracted dignitaries, alumni, students, teachers of Abbi Grammar School, and members of the Unique Nobles 90 Association, which comprises the 1990 graduating set of the school.

In his remarks, Chairman of the association, Comrade Shedrack Onitsha, emphasized the importance of celebrating academic excellence, particularly at a time when some young people wrongly perceive education as a “scam.” He stated, “Education is not a scam but a key to sustainable living. Today, we honor two of our members who have distinguished themselves in academia and brought great pride to our alma mater.”

He described the journey to becoming a professor as one of immense sacrifice, resilience, and dedication, adding that the achievements of Professors Ifelunini and Ogwezzy serve as a beacon of inspiration for future generations. “Their elevation to the pinnacle of academia reinforces our belief that education remains the most powerful tool for transformation,” he said.

Delivering a keynote lecture titled “Education is Not a Scam,” Dr. Jeff Chisunum reaffirmed the transformative power of education, urging students to ignore negative narratives and look up to accomplished scholars like Professors Ifelunini and Ogwezzy as role models. He stated, “Education empowers individuals with knowledge, skills, and wisdom to navigate life’s challenges. Unlike fraudulent schemes designed to deceive, education builds a foundation for intellectual growth and societal development.”

Speaking on behalf of the Abbi Grammar School Old Students Association (AGSOSA), Sir Godsday Owetem commended the Class of 1990 for recognizing the professors, describing them as “pace-setters.” He decried society’s tendency to glorify individuals with questionable wealth while failing to celebrate academic excellence and pledged AGSOSA’s support for the association’s initiatives.

In their responses, Professors Ifelunini and Ogwezzy expressed gratitude for the honor and encouraged students to strive for excellence. Professor Ifelunini urged students to “wear academic gowns greater than ours,” while Professor Ogwezzy reiterated that education remains a tool for success and societal progress.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of award plaques to the honorees by the traditional prime ministers of Abbi. The event served as a clarion call for the younger generation to prioritize education, reaffirming that academic achievement remains one of the highest honors in life.
