Delta Speaker Guwor Condoles Benue Over Killings, Commends Lawmakers’ Service

MAKURDI/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called for renewed commitment from stakeholders towards the unity and advancement of Nigeria.

Guwor made the call on Sunday at the 2nd Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, held at St. Mark’s Parish, Apir, in Makurdi, the state capital. He was a special guest at the thanksgiving service, which brought together lawmakers and political leaders across the country.

Speaking during the event, the Delta Speaker said State Houses of Assembly and other critical stakeholders must stand united in their role of deepening democracy and fostering national development. He lauded the Benue State House of Assembly for choosing to mark its second anniversary with a special thanksgiving, saying such gestures reflect humility and a recognition of God’s grace in governance.

Rt. Hon. Guwor congratulated the Speaker of the Benue Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, along with Principal Officers and members of the House, for the successful journey of the 10th Assembly so far. He described his attendance as an honour and a show of solidarity with fellow lawmakers who have remained steadfast in service.

Guwor commended the Benue legislators for their dedication to effective legislation, oversight, and representation, urging them to remain focused in their constitutional responsibilities. He also expressed confidence that the Assembly will achieve even more in the years ahead.

Adorned in Tiv traditional attire in honour of his hosts, the Delta Speaker wished the Benue Assembly continued success in the next legislative session and assured of his support in fostering stronger ties among State Assemblies across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor also used the occasion to condole with the government and people of Benue State over the recent killings in some parts of the state. He condemned the violence and urged all stakeholders to work towards ending the senseless bloodshed.

“No development can thrive in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. I pray for lasting peace and justice in Benue and across Nigeria,” he stated.

Guwor prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and asked God to comfort the bereaved families.

The Speaker was accompanied to the event by the Member Representing Ughelli South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Utuama, along with some of his political aides.
