Delta State Students Crowned World Debate Champions in Doha

ASABA/Nigeria: Students from Delta State, representing Nigeria, have clinched the global title at the prestigious World School Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar. The victory came after they triumphed in the national championship organized by Presidential Schools Debate Nigeria, under the Presidency.

Led by brilliant minds including Wisdom Chukwuma, Otorvo Uyoyou, Abraham Honour, Ekhamateh Splendour, and Alika Daniel, the team delivered a stellar performance, securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory in the opening round and sweeping the final with a 3–0 win. Their 5–1 aggregate score propelled them to the championship against teams from the USA and Qatar.

Before departing for Doha, the team received an encouraging send-off from Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba, where he expressed confidence in their ability to bring honor to Delta State and Nigeria.

The victory has sparked celebrations nationwide, particularly in Delta State, highlighting the state’s commitment to education under Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda. Stakeholders and the public have praised the students’ achievement as a testament to the power of education, critical thinking, and youth empowerment.
