Maritime Journalists Hail Customs Boss Adeniyi on WCO Council Chairmanship

LAGOS/Nigeria: The Coalition of Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (COMJAN) has congratulated the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, on his recent election as Chairman of the Council of the World Customs Organization (WCO).

In a joint statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by its President, Ambassador Dr. Ralph John, and Secretary, Pastor Tony Nzekwe, COMJAN described Adeniyi’s emergence as a well-deserved global recognition of his transformational leadership in Nigeria’s Customs Service.

Since assuming office in June 2023, the group noted that the Customs boss has introduced reforms that have significantly improved operational efficiency, administrative processes, and service delivery across the organization.

COMJAN said Adeniyi’s election reflects international confidence in his integrity, diligence, and Nigeria’s increasing influence in global customs and trade matters. The association applauded his ethical conduct and innovative leadership, which they credited for repositioning the Customs Service.

While commending the Comptroller General, COMJAN also urged him to deepen diplomatic engagement with fellow member nations of the WCO, fostering mutual respect and cooperation in his new international role.
