ABUJA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has been honoured with the prestigious Best State in Cybersecurity Leadership Award by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in recognition of its strides in cybersecurity governance and digital infrastructure development.
The award was presented during a high-level forum themed “Building a Resilient Digital Future,” jointly organized by NITDA, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, held Friday at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
Presenting the award, Dr. Lawan A. Mohammed, Director of NITDA’s Cybersecurity Department, commended Delta State for its “exemplary leadership in cybersecurity governance, infrastructure development, and digital awareness at the subnational level,” which he said aligns with Nigeria’s national digital agenda.
Receiving the award on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the State Webmaster, Comrade Louis Zuokumor Osiobe, expressed gratitude to NITDA for the recognition, assuring that the honour would further motivate the governor’s administration to deepen its digital transformation efforts.
“Governor Oborevwori understands the vital role of cybersecurity in building a modern, resilient economy,” Osiobe said. “His administration’s commitment to digital empowerment and infrastructure development is already yielding results.”
He highlighted several initiatives by the Delta State Government aimed at boosting digital literacy and cybersecurity awareness. These include youth-focused training programs hosted at the Delta Tech Hub and the Office of the State Webmaster, targeting young tech entrepreneurs, startups, law enforcement agents, and the general public.
“Delta has gained national and international attention for its tech empowerment initiatives,” he added, noting that digital platforms have helped streamline service delivery and strengthen public sector efficiency across the state.
Osiobe encouraged Nigerian youths to embrace digital technologies and cybersecurity as essential tools for innovation and personal development, urging individuals, organizations, and government agencies to invest in digital transformation.
He also stated that Delta is “investment-ready” and called on stakeholders in the tech ecosystem to leverage the opportunities available at the Delta Tech Hub and other innovation-focused government platforms.
The award adds to the growing list of national recognitions for Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes Modernization, Opportunity, Reforms, and Enterprise in driving socio-economic growth.
