AWKA/Nigeria: First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has described women’s empowerment as a powerful driver of household stability, community growth, and national development, as she rolled out financial support to 1,000 women entrepreneurs in Anambra State.

Represented by the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, the First Lady spoke at the Economic Empowerment Programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), organised in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation and the Anambra State Government.

The programme, part of a nationwide scheme inaugurated in Minna, Niger State, to support 18,500 women, targets traders and small-scale business owners, each receiving a grant of ₦50,000 to strengthen and recapitalise their businesses.

“This seed fund is to support the entrepreneurial spirit of women. When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and ultimately, the future of the nation,” Oluremi Tinubu said, commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Dr. Nonye Soludo for expanding Anambra’s beneficiary list from 500 to 1,000.

She urged the recipients to invest the funds wisely to grow their businesses, improve their livelihoods, and uplift their families.

Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, hailed the First Lady for recognising the pivotal role of women in building resilient families and communities, praising Dr. Soludo for her effort to double the number of beneficiaries.

One of the recipients, Mrs. Janet Asika, a hairstylist from Aguata, expressed gratitude to the government for prioritising the welfare of grassroots women, saying the grant would help her restock and expand her salon business.
