UTE ERUMU/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Wednesday joined dignitaries, clerics, and well-wishers at Saint Michael’s Anglican Church, Ute Erumu, Ika North East Local Government Area, to celebrate Ezinne Grace Chinyere Okubor at a special thanksgiving service marking her 95th birthday.
The thanksgiving service, which drew top government functionaries and religious leaders, was a tribute to the enduring life and influence of the nonagenarian, mother of Dr. Festus Okubor, Chief Strategist to the Delta State Governor. The service was graced by the Bishop of Ndokwa Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd Festus Nwafili, and presided over by the Bishop of Ika Diocese, Rt. Revd Godfrey Ekpenisi.
In his sermon, Bishop Ekpenisi described Ezinne Okubor’s 95 years as a testimony of God’s grace, stressing that long life is a divine blessing that should be celebrated while the beneficiary is alive. He urged families and communities to show love and appreciation to their elders during their lifetime, noting that longevity is often a product of faith, the right attitude, and a purposeful lifestyle.
“Absolute faith in God and obedience to His Word are essential. We must also cultivate a joyful spirit, exhibit gratitude, and practice forgiveness and love. These are the keys to unlocking a long and purposeful life, just like Mama,” the bishop declared.
The celebrant’s son, Dr. Festus Okubor, described his mother as a strong woman of faith whose devotion to God has remained unwavering. He expressed gratitude to God for preserving her life and thanked Governor Oborevwori, Senator Okowa, and other dignitaries for honouring the family with their presence.
Ezinne Okubor, accompanied by Governor Oborevwori, Senator Okowa, her family, and guests, offered heartfelt thanksgiving to God for the gift of a long and fulfilled life.
