Groups Warn Light Up Ndokwa Over Alleged Smear Campaign Against Egugbo

ASABA/Nigeria: Political groups and concerned citizens in Ndokwa have cautioned the socio-political group, Light Up Ndokwa Association (LUNA), against what they described as a calculated attempt to malign the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo.

The warning follows an SMS circulated by LUNA alleging that Egugbo supported Ndokwa’s 16 years of electricity blackout and insulted residents. The message also contained his personal phone number, urging the public to call him directly.

In a joint statement signed by the Ndokwa Political Action Committee and Concerned Ndokwa Citizens Against Falsehood, and circulated by Mr. Adigun Sunday, the groups condemned the message, describing it as cyberbullying and character assassination.

They maintained that the allegations were baseless and amounted to a reckless attempt to expose Egugbo to public harassment. “The people of Ndokwa deserve sincerity, unity, and genuine advocacy for development, not propaganda, lies, and character attacks,” the statement read. “We call on the public to disregard the content of that message and focus on holding the right authorities accountable for our years of neglect in power supply.”

Chief Willie Ishima, one of the respondents, also dismissed LUNA as “a bunch of desperados with ulterior motives,” accusing the group of working against the interest of the people.

Reacting, Egugbo said the SMS confirmed the strange calls he had been receiving from unknown persons. He alleged that members of LUNA had earlier attacked the scholarship scheme of the Monday Onyeme Foundation, established by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA.

Egugbo said the group’s actions called its motives into question, wondering if it was being used as a political tool by failed politicians or as a platform to extort Ndokwa people. “Because of their attack on a worthy programme such as scholarship, I requested to know the educational background of the leadership of Light Up Ndokwa. Instead of answering those questions, they are mobilising their members and the public against me,” he said.

The SSA vowed to consult widely and take appropriate action, stressing that some members of the association were already known to law enforcement agencies.
