ASABA/Nigeria: The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has issued a stern warning to officers under his command, declaring that extortion, unlawful searches of mobile phones, and other unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated.
The warning was delivered on Tuesday during a strategic conference with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders, and senior officers at the Police Officers’ Mess, Headquarters, Asaba. The session, which aligned with recent directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, focused on discipline, professionalism, and intelligence-led policing.
CP Olufemi directed officers to avoid practices that bring disrepute to the Force, stressing that policemen are not permitted to stop motorists or citizens at random to search their phones. He cautioned that any officer caught engaging in such acts would be decisively dealt with.
Reaffirming his zero tolerance for extortion, unlawful detention, and excessive use of force, the CP ordered senior officers to enforce strict pre-deployment briefings and debriefings. He also tasked tactical units to intensify surveillance of identified black spots, kidnap routes, and robbery corridors, while enhancing collaboration with other security agencies and local communities.
As the year-end festive period approaches, CP Olufemi assured residents that security operations will be escalated across the state. He mandated commanders at all levels to cascade his directives to their subordinates, ensuring strict compliance and accountability.
