Chairman of the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mr. Benjamin Igo, and others statewide sensitisation and enlightenment tour.

ISIOKOLO/Nigeria: The headquarters of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Isiokolo, was a beehive of activity on Tuesday, October 14, as the Bureau of Local Government Pensions continued its statewide sensitisation and enlightenment tour for retired and retiring local government workers.

Leading the team was the Chairman of the Bureau, Mr. Benjamin Igo, accompanied by the Secretary, Mr. Frank Atube; Director of Contributory Pension Scheme, Mr. Peter Abor; and other senior officers of the Bureau. Also present were representatives of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), and other institutional managers of the Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme.

The turnout was impressive, drawing a large audience of contributory pension retirees, local government council staff, primary school teachers, and officers of the Local Government Education Authority. Participants were taken through detailed sessions on pension enrolment, management, and the benefits of the Contributory Pension Scheme.

A major highlight of the event was the explanation of how contributors can access housing mortgage facilities through their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSA). According to the facilitators, to qualify for the mortgage option, a subscriber’s RSA must have been active for at least 60 months and remain fully funded and up to date.

The sensitisation tour, which has entered its second week, will continue in Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area, on Wednesday, October 15, and move to Uvwie Local Government Area on Thursday, October 16.
