IDUMUJE-UGBOKO/Nigeria: The prospects of higher education have brightened for young scholars across Delta North following the successful completion of the screening exercise for the Senator Ned Nwoko Scholarship Scheme. With the process now concluded, 90 selected students, ten from each of the nine local government areas in Delta North, are set to begin their academic journey at the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, on full scholarships funded by Senator Nwoko.

The scholarship, one of the most comprehensive educational initiatives in the region, covers full tuition and accommodation, providing life-changing opportunities for students who have demonstrated academic promise and passion for personal development.

“This is a lifeline and an answered prayer for many families,” said Eze Onwenna, a supporter of the programme. “Senator Nwoko’s commitment to youth empowerment is not just inspiring, it is transformative.”

The Sports University of Nigeria, located in Idumuje-Ugboko, is renowned for its world-class facilities and excellence in both sports and academic disciplines. The institution is designed to blend athletic development with intellectual growth, preparing graduates for leadership roles in sports management, health sciences, and other fields.

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has consistently emphasized education as a cornerstone of societal development. The scholarship scheme, he noted earlier, is part of his broader vision to nurture human capital and foster sustainable progress in the region.

Observers say the successful screening marks a critical step in advancing Senator Nwoko’s vision of empowering youth through education and sports. “This milestone is a strong testament to the Senator’s vision of societal reorientation and sustainable development,” Onwenna added. “We look forward to seeing these young minds thrive and emerge as ambassadors of Delta North and Nigeria.”

Preparations are now underway for the students’ official enrollment at the Sports University, with their academic journey expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Beyond providing access to education, the initiative is expected to produce ripple effects across the Delta region, boosting sports development, inspiring youth leadership, and driving community transformation.

With the scholarship scheme now set in motion, Senator Nwoko’s initiative stands as a model for purposeful public service and a powerful example of how strategic investment in youth can reshape the future of an entire region.
