
ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has commended all participating teams in the 2025 Zenith Bank/Delta State Principal’s Cup, describing the competition as a superlative display of sporting excellence and a true reflection of the immense talent that abounds among Delta youths.
Rt. Hon. Guwor said the annual tournament continues to serve as a powerful platform for discovering and nurturing future sports stars while promoting discipline, unity, and healthy rivalry among secondary schools across the state.
“This tournament underscores the rich sporting talent in Delta State and the importance of nurturing it. It sends a positive message about teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship—values that are vital to the holistic development of our young people and the growth of Delta State,” the Speaker stated.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker expressed delight at witnessing the thrilling final match at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, where Urhobo College, Effurun, triumphed over Ogbe-Ijaw Grammar School, Ogbe-Ijaw, with a 2–1 victory to emerge overall champions of the 2025 edition.
Rt. Hon. Guwor, who donated the trophy for the overall winner of the competition, said his contribution stemmed from a deep passion for grassroots sports development and his belief in the transformative power of youth engagement through sports.
“I am proud to have supported this tournament through the donation of the winner’s trophy. My commitment to grassroots sports remains unwavering because sports play a key role in building discipline, resilience, and teamwork among young people,” Guwor said.
The Speaker congratulated Urhobo College, Effurun, for their well-deserved victory, applauding the students, teachers, and coaches for their hard work and determination. He also praised Ogbe-Ijaw Grammar School for their spirited performance and resilience throughout the tournament.
“I commend Ogbe-Ijaw Grammar School for putting up a strong fight. You gave Urhobo College a good run for their money, and that competitive spirit is what makes this tournament worthwhile,” he added.
Rt. Hon. Guwor lauded the organizers of the Zenith Bank/Delta Principal’s Cup for sustaining a competition that continues to promote sports development, teamwork, and the discovery of young talents across the state.
