ASABA/Nigeria: Widows enrolled in the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the prompt payment of their October stipends, describing the gesture as a lifeline in the face of economic hardship and emotional distress.
In an interaction with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, commended the Governor for what he termed “compassionate and exemplary leadership in all ramifications.” He confirmed that payments to the 10,000 verified widows were made directly into their bank accounts on Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th and Friday 21st October, in strict compliance with the Governor’s directive.
Chief Okonta lauded the Governor’s consistency in sustaining the monthly stipends, explaining that the initiative has continued to bring relief and hope to vulnerable women across the state. He added that all beneficiaries were carefully verified before their inclusion in the scheme.
He further disclosed that the Governor-approved Free Health Care Service Registration for the widows, designed to provide additional medical support and security, is nearing completion.
In heartfelt appreciation, several beneficiaries reportedly offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, asking God to strengthen him and grant him the grace to sustain his good works for the people of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
The widows described the monthly support as not just financial assistance but a sign of dignity and inclusion from a government they say has shown “genuine human feeling and commitment to their welfare.”
